5 Reasons to Attend the Front Porch Market at The Acre

Local events are some of my favorite happenings here in Abilene, TX. Particularly events that feature creative entrepreneurs and local makers! Which is why I’m super excited about the Front Porch Market happening at The Acre on May 4th 10AM – 2PM! I want to encourage all Abileneans to head out to support this local market. Need more reasons? I’ll give you FIVE…..

1. See the Makers

Upon visiting the event last year I was astounded at the talent in all of Abilene’s local creatives. Everything from antiques, to needlepoint, to wreathes, to live music, to watercolors and mini cakes. It’s a treat to view the wares of such talented folks all in one place! Here is a short list of vendors participating in this year’s market:

2. Walk the GroundsΒ

Want to get away from your daily life? Spend five minutes on The Acre’s lovely grounds and you’ll feel transported into the pages of a story from your childhood. There are picnic tables to soak in the sun, a tire swing, a vegetable garden, chickens, kittens, and a creek that runs through the side of the property. The Acre restores your weary soul and rekindles the magic within your restless heart.

3. View the House

The house at the Acre feels like something straight out of Gone with the Wind. Beautifully decorated in a white on white style with a hand collected assortment of rusic antiques and Abilene maps, the house is an ideal venue for weddings. Rachel has taken such care to pay attention to all the details that make a home have a heart and soul. Immerse yourself in a world full of pretty things inside each and every room.

4. Snag some great Finds

Not only do you have a chance to meet the makers, but the Front Porch Market is a great place to snag some fantastic decor for your home. Antique books and furniture pieces and paintings of all kinds. Purses, jewelry, scarves, and wall hangings… you guys, the sky’s the limit here. If you love having unique pieces that are one of a kind, this market is definitely the place to find that original statement piece for your wardrobe or your home.

5. Meet Rachel Riley

If you have not had the pleasure, find and introduce yourself to the amazingly talented Rachel Riley. Rachel is the genius behind the creative heart of The Acre (@keepingcontent), a full blown wedding venue and fully functional home. She is also a local professor of psychology at Abilene Christian University. Rarely in this live have I met an individual with such a passion for bringing people together and supporting those around her. I highly recommend that you seek her out and introduce yourself, especially if you’re a fellow creative! Then give her a huge high five and gold stars for putting the event together!
