What should I expect in a lifestyle photoshoot?
We will be together for a minimum of one hour. You will have the opportunity to laugh and play with your children with lots of silly faces and tickle fights. I will choose to pose you based on the setting and landscape. Be prepared to BE YOURSELF. I want to have fun with you and catch all of the sides of your personality you are willing to show.
Please feel free to bring personal mementos-- hot wheels, bubble wands, stuffed animals, the quilt your mother made you-- whatever brings delight to your heart. These items will add individuality to your pictures and make them priceless to you. It is my goal to create a relaxing playful environment for a spectacular photography experience.
What do I wear to a session?
You will need to wear clothes you feel comfortable moving around in. Be mindful that if we are outside, there is a chance that what you are wearing might get dirty from dust/mud/rain etc. Dress in clothes and outfits that accurately represent you and your families personality. Dressing appropriately can make a big difference in the final outcome of your pictures.
There are no "bad" colors to photograph. Complimentary coordinating colors work best choosing no more than three colors per family. Busy patterns tend to take the focus away from the subjects that are being photographed. For examples please visit this clothing guide on my pinterest page.
Based on the Season
If we are shooting in cold weather, please bring a coat/scarf/gloves/hat to keep warm. We can get plenty of shots with you in your awesome outfit, but I want to make sure we can keep warm and stay out the full two hours.
I would love to have photos taken with my children and their families. Can I do this?
Absolutely! Nothing warms my heart like family. Be aware that any photoshoot over 5 individuals will have a price adjustment. I can happily create a cusom package for you and your family. This makes for a great Mother's Day/Father's Day gift.
What time of day is best for sessions?
This depends on what time of the year you book your session.
9:30 am and 5:30 pm are my favorite times to shoot. Your photos will have the spectacular golden light that is often revered and alluring.
Because the sun sets much earlier the evening time changed to late afternoon around 3:30 pm to capture that golden light.
Is there a bad time of day?
When shooting around high noon, there is a great deal of harsh sunlight which can lead to squinting and harsh shadows. I prefer to shoot at the above times if you, the client, are available.
Do you have suggestions for the location of our session?
You bet! I have a large stockpile of great sites for photographs. In our meet and greet session I will discuss this with you, asking what kind of photos you are looking for. Outdoor fields? You got it. Downtown urban feel? Absolutely. Do not hesitate to ask and let my imagination spark your creativity. Have your own favorite destination in mind? Let me know and I can happily accomodate!
When can I expect to see my images after the photoshoot?
After our session is completed, it takes AT LEAST four weeks for me to edit your photos. I then order your physcial 4 x 6 proofs and post the digitals to your gallery. After receiving the physical proofs, I will send you an email to schedule your Reveal & Purchas Session. During this session we go over your session printed proofs and I give you access to your own private password protected gallery. I also bring along several product examples to show the designs KAPD is capable of producing for you.
I will teach you how to use the different functions of the gallery to order prints, frames, canvas, and other products.
Can I get a copyright release to the full resolution images?
Unfortuantely, as a photographic artist I retain all of the copyrights to any digital files I have created. In each of the packages, there is a CD included with digital images printable up to an 8x10. For prints larger than 8x10, please contact me and I can send you the print price sheet for professional prints.
I encourage my clients to order prints through my trusted professional print labs in order to showcase the best quality image in their home. The print prices are fairly reasonable, therefore my photography is shown at it's best possible resolution for you to enjoy.
If my kids are sick, can I reschedule?
Of course! I do require 24 hours notice for cancellation. Same day cancellation requires half the package fee to compensate my time. Otherwise I am happy to reschedule appointments for a different date based on my availibility.
What if it rains right before or during the photoshoot?
If your photoshoot is impossible due to nasty weather conditions, we can reschedule at no cost to you.
If it rains during a photoshoot, we can continue using the rain as a themed portion of the shoot, or we can reschedule without any penalties. I as the photographer reserve the right to cancel the shoot if the weather becomes too severe.
What do you expect from us as parents during our photoshoot?
No one knows your children like you do. Generally parents know how to make their kids laugh, focus, be serious, play, etc. I want to work with parents as a team. You know how to invoke great reactions out of your kids, and I want to capture those priceless faces! Play with your kids, give them piggy back rides, turn them upside down; it's all about the mood of a shoot and you as parents have a strong control over that.
Also know that your kids will get fussy. They won't look at the camera. They'll pout and throw tantrums. Remember to BE PATIENT. Know that I do offer bribes (usually smarties) as a treat for being a good model. If your child is being difficult, I may ask you to leave us and walk to a different area. Sometimes all children can see is their watchful parents and having you just out of reach can help them relax.
A Note on Real Smiles
Please do not tell your child to "Say cheese". This invokes their cheeseball grin that isn't their real smile. Photographers have a difficult time getting kids back on track after the "Say Cheese" line has been spoken.
How do I prepare my child for a session?
Make sure your child is fed, well rested, and ready to have a good time. Sessions tend to be challenging when scheduled close to naptime. Feel free to tell your kids that they are going to play as models for a photographer on the day of the shoot. I will do my best to help them feel excited and relaxed not intimidated.
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept cash, checks, or credit cards. Please make all checks payable to: Kirsten Wollschlager.
Half of your package fee is due upon booking to hold your calender date. Payment in full is due at the end of your session. Installments are allowed, however please contact me to set up a payment plan.
Payment for prints is due upon ordering.
Can I put my photos on Facebook or on my blog?
Yes, you may. Included on each disc there is a folder with watermarked images. I ask that you only post watermarked images to Facebook and blogs.
For sneak peaks and on the Kirsten Ashley Photography Blog I will tag you on Facebook if that is your wish. In regards to holiday cards, I will refrain from posting your photos until after that holiday is over.
Are you willing to travel to shoot at a specific destination?
I am willing to travel to a destination of your choice.
Note that there are travel fees involved in addition to mileage if I am driving further than 45 minutes from Abilene, Texas. Please contact me for more information.
Can we change outfits during a session?
Absolutely! A two hour session gives you enough time for around three outfit changes. I completely understand wanting 20 images of you and your spouse in different clothing and I am happy to accomodate.
Please let me know at the beginning of a session if you plan to change clothes so I can budget in time for this. I will keep us on a schedule so you don't have to worry about spending too much of your session time in one outfit.
