Any time I am asked to be a part of an engagement I am always ecstatic to learn the story behind the couple, but when it’s a surprise engagement planned by the boyfriend, I want to wait to hear it from his other half. I met Daniel at the dog park when his dog Lilly and our dog Max were playing together. When Daniel learned I was a photographer he mentioned that he would be getting engaged to his girlfriend Maci in the fall and wanted me to photograph the surprise! Daniel was an amazing planner with a heart for details having me hand craft a chalkboard with their own hashtag #onwardstoedwards just for Maci!

The real surprise came when the date arrived, I pulled into Perini’s Ranch, and the weather was abysmal. Sheets of rain were pouring out of the sky! With some quick thinking and amazing help of the Perini’s staff we got the two of them seated at a “fake reservation table” a whole hour early. I sat across with a menu covering my camera and waited for Daniel to pop the question! Of course Maci said yes, and even requested that we head out into the pouring rain for a commemorative photograph!

We rescheduled their session for a day with better weather and kept the original location. I am happy to report that mother nature cooperated with a gorgeous evening and we had the whole place to ourselves. After seeing Maci and Daniel interact, I am so very excited for them to start their future. They fit together so well and I love how they make each other laugh.

Maci and Daniel I hope you guys enjoy your sneak peek of your session! You guys were so much fun to work with and I am so very honored to have been a part of your engagement! I can hardly wait to show you the rest of your images!

Daniel and Maci I wish you two all the best in planning your upcoming wedding and many MANY happy years together! #onwardstoedwards

Meet the Lambersons! I was recently honored with the request to photograph an anniversary session for this beautiful and vivacious couple. When we met for a beer at the Landstuhl Castle for their Meet & Greet I was completely won over by their charming personalities. They had brought along their new puppy “Fruling” {which means Spring in German} and I was amazed at how well these two complimented each other. C & P run marathons together, they travel the world, enjoy good Italian wine, and truly love living abroad here in Germany.

The Lambersons are celebrated their second wedding anniversary this past June. It was heartwarming to witness their easy smiles and held hands. I heard the story of their first date at a Flaming Lips concert back in college where they met. During their session recollections of this event brought on happy smiles and laughter. I adore when couples truly seem to enjoy each other and work together in an invisible seamless harmony on the yin to the others yang. While C works hard for the Air Force, P has the fortunate position of teaching at the local American high school. They support each other in every aspect of their life, down to their extended families.

For their session setting we chose to shoot in Weilerbach where they often run together to train for their marathons. This was especially exciting as the Lamberson’s were able to share spots that were special to them. Their wardrobe was spot on! The dresses C chose were absolutely stunning and I would die to own both of them! My favorite was that the yellow dress had pockets! P looked super dapper in his suit blazer and tie… You have to admit they make a stunning couple! We used minimal props for the session to really let the couples relationship shine. We had a little impromptu thunderstorm during the session neither one was phased! We simply whipped out an umbrella and continued shooting!

C & P, thank you so much for letting me celebrate such a magical time in your life with the two of you. I had a blast photographing you both and you made my job so easy! Thank you for being so easy going and fun loving, and I wish you a lifetime of many happy years of marriage! I hope that you enjoy your sneak peek below and I can hardly wait to show you the rest of the photos at your Reveal & Purchase Session!

1 :: Baby it’s cold outside – Seriously… what the heck? It’s the middle of August and yesterday I wore leggings, boots, a long sleeve shirt, coat and scarf. WOW. I get the feeling all in all that the seasons are changing for good this year… and super early. I am not a happy camper. While fall is my favorite season, this year I’m not ready to give up those long warm summer days full of endless wonder. Hopefully we’ll get a blast of warmth before August is over!

1 :: Hello, 2014! – I can hardly believe it’s already 2014… I know some of you are thinking “What? Why is 2014 so significant?” December 1st, 2013 marked my two year anniversary living in Germany. 2014 has now arrived which means I only have six months left to live in this beautiful country. SIX MONTHS. *groans inwardly* I just know it’s going to fly by so incredibly fast. D and I were given this gift almost three years ago and I am both excited an nervous to dare to live somewhere else. We are still waiting to hear on where we are being sent next, so stay tuned. Here’s how D & I rang in the new year with this view from our building:

2 :: Out with the Old and in with the New – There are some impressive changes coming to Kirsten Ashley Photography this year… some of which will depend on where I am sent to live next. I can express that the changes will be, in a word, quality. Quality is something I pride my company on and I am very excited to be offering more online gallery purchasing options {like metals and print wraps}, more in person samples, more frills to the boutique packaging, and hopefully towards the end of the year some gear upgrades. I want to thank everyone who has been my steady foundation and support as my business built itself slowly over the past year. It has been a privilege to work with each and every client. Here’s to making the most of a brand new year!

3 :: Heels to Start the Year Off Right – You KNOW I couldn’t start this year off without investigating the earliest styles of the year. I love the glitz and glamour of the New Years Holiday…. something about it makes my heart sparkle. So here is some fabulous footwear to make your tootsies wriggle with delight! 1) kate spade new york – ‘pietra’ leather pump $358.00 2) GUESS – ‘Plasma’ Pump – $98.95 3) Prada – Peep Toe Pump – $650.00 4) Paul Andrew – ‘Zenadia’ Stripe Silk Pointy Toe Pump – $645.00 5) Nicholas Kirkwood – Ruffle Trim Pump – $1,050.00 6) Ted Baker London – ‘Mitila’ Pump – $185.00

4 :: Healthy Snacks – So I have always thought the New Year’s resolution to diet was silly… I mean aren’t you supposed to eat right all the time?? Well the joke’s on me because the busier I am, the more I tend to rely on my sugary cereal bar as a means of quality nutrition. I also love to snack. Seriously it’s my favorite. So in the event of trying to put the healthiest foot forward to start off the year right, I scoured Pinterest for some healthy snack options. I was psyched at what I came up with. So if you’re at your desk all day, a welcome slave to your creative industry, with your hands constantly roving for munchies…. here are some alternatives that pack quite a nutritious punch! Like these selections? Don’t forget to follow me on Pinterest!

5 :: Awesome Visitors – I had the joy of hosting my oldest and dearest friend and her hubby for Christmas this year. We had a BLAST seeing every possible Christmas market and showing them some of our favorite places in the area. I managed to sneak in a mini-photoshoot while we were in France… and I have to say I love love love the backdrop scenery there. It makes for such magical photos! Then there’s the part where Chelsea & Worth are the cutest couple EVER. It was quite interesting for us girls to realize that we had married such similar men…. which would make sense as Chels and I share similar personality traits. I want to thank the two of them again for coming all the way out here to visit us and staying for so long! It truly made our Christmas special to have family here to celebrate with! Here are a few shots from France. Isn’t his mustache awesome?!?!

Thanks for coming back this week! It’s my hope that MIAM brightens the beginning of your week so you can power through to the end!

Sometimes life has a way of reminding you that the world is a very small place indeed. When D was deployed in Spain, he attended a bible study run by Chaplain Foust. Low and behold, the Chaplain’s family was actually stationed at Ramstein while the Chaplain himself was deployed to Spain just like D. After both men had returned safely home I was contacted by the Chaplain’s lovely wife Michelle to take fall photos of their family.

The day of their session we trooped out past Hohenecken to a camp ground near the lake. The foliage was at it’s peak here and we could not have asked for more beautiful weather for their session. I had such a fun time with their son Caleb. He is ridiculously photogenic and kind-hearted. He only laughed a little when I told him to pretend to throw the foodball to his running backs and politely corrected me “You mean wide receiver’s?”. Photographing Caleb and Scott throwing the football was one of my favorite moments. There is something so heartwarming about the bond between father and son. Michelle picked the best outfits for their photos that day, the navy’s in sharp contrast with the burnt orange foliage.

Scott, Michelle, & Caleb, you guys were SO much fun to work with. Thanks for humoring me as I posed you and for your good nature at the German commentary going on around us. I am so thankful that the Lord brought you and my husband together so that we had an opportunity to work with one another. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek and I am seriously psyched to show you the rest of the photographs from you session!

I want to thank the Foust family again for being such wonderful clients. You are such a beautiful loving family that it makes it easy to capture the closeness between you all. I wish you a wonderful holiday season this year!

When G contacted me about shooting an anniversary session I was beyond excited. G & D were married just one year earlier on August 2, 2013. They were looking for photos to commemorate their time in Germany and to celebrate their first year of marriage. When the Germany weather finally prevailed we had a glorious day of sunshine to work with. With the couple traveling quite far, their extended session lasted most of the day.

There is something about extra special about having your hair and make-up professionally done for a photo shoot. Chyla Camancho, my favorite artist, made G’s hair and makeup absolutely stunning. D arrived shortly after with a beautiful bouquet of roses picked especially for his lovely wife. So sweet! The couple chose a combination of urban/landscape photos and Otterberg immediately sprang to my mind as the perfect location. With it’s ancient architecture and picturesque vistas we had a keen time sporting around the city. Then it was time to head to the outskirts for those scenic landscape shots. The Copeland’s were such troopers hiking through the damp ground to get to our location. Huge thanks to D for helping me carry my step ladder.

I loved getting these two to laugh at each other. Spending time with the Copeland’s showed me how much love and happiness is in their lives. These two are adventurous but are also a team. I adored seeing their gentleness towards one another as well as their strength. Without further ado, I give you their sneak peek. G & D I hope you guys enjoy this glimpse into your session. I can hardly wait to show you the rest!!!

G & D thank you again for allowing me the honor of photographing such a memorable moment in your lives. You guys were so great to work with and I wish you all the best in the coming holiday season!

Congratulations to Brandon & Paula Amrein on celebrating their three year anniversary this past September. It was such a joy to photograph this couple not only because they are so much fun but because they are dear friends of mine. Paula was the first friend I made here in Germany when I arrived almost two years ago in December. She and Brandon made Dana and I feel so welcome here and they have become our favorite traveling companions.

Paula and I became fast friends due to how much we have in common. Her prep work for her session was outstanding as she paid attention to tiny details like flowers and a beautiful picnic lunch. We also share a love for all things vintage so I was ecstatic when she wanted to include a bicycle & vintage outfits for the occasion. B & P laugh and play together in a rare loving way. They both know exactly what to do to make the other smile. I have watched their relationship grow these past two years and it is marvelous to see their affection for each other deepen with time.

B & P, you were amazing to work with and I thank you for allowing me a glimpse of your beautiful marriage. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek as I had such fun editing your session. I wish you all the best and may you celebrate each other all the years of your life together.

Brandon & Paula, thanks again for such a marvelous opportunity to photograph a special occasion. You guys were so easy to work with and it is so easy to see how in love the two of you are. Here’s to many more years of friendship!

1 :: Raider Power – In my humble opinion, fall is not complete without College Football Gameday. That being said, I’m dying over here across the ocean. It’s torture having to rely on fellow facebookers or a refresh of ESPN to see the current scores of a game. Not to mention the seven hour time different makes it super hard to keep up. More often than not, I find myself checking game states the next day praying Texas Tech had another victory. This past Sunday I was psyched to learn that we still remain undefeated with our victory against West Virginia!!! Now… about that online ESPN package…. how much does it cost again??? Keep up the good work Raiders!!! We’re ranked #10!!!

2 :: Jumping on the Google+ Bandwagon – It’s true folks. I couldn’t hold out any longer. You can now follow Kirsten Ashley Photography on Google+ Local with my very own business page! Here you can catch up on the latest and greatest without getting on the FB. I really like G+ as the picture quality doesn’t have any of the resampling issues that Facebook does. Feel free to +1 my page and leave comments on the posts!

3 :: aaannnnnnnnd Twitter?!?!? –  Shocking isn’t it? I remember thinking that there was NO WAY I’d EVER join Twitter. Now look who’s tweeting once a day and can’t wait to see what Jimmy Fallon is going to say next. Holy geez. That’s the best part about Twitter. Following celebrities. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before. Who doesn’t want insight into the lives of the wealthy and famous? It’s so crazy to see Ian Somerhalder tweeting photos of himself on set of TVD…. like an average joe. Ellen DeGeneres is hilarious. Only she could deliver such great one-liners with a max of 140 characters. Feel free to follow me @kaphotograph.

4 :: Foodie at Heart – I’ve decided that my main use for Pinterest is food. Even when I’m slacking on pinning, I’m almost always pinning food. I just need to work on incorporating those delicious recipes into weekly meal planning. For as much of a planner as I am you’d think I’d be better at this, but I’m not. So here’s to this week’s inspiration full of warm intense flavored meals for gloomy autumn days. Want to keep up with all of my recipe’s on Pinterest? Follow my “Yummay” board! 1) Roast Pumpkin With Feta & Honey 2) Seared Scallops with Sweet Potato Grits and Chanterelle Mushrooms 3) Fig, Goat Cheese & Caramelized Onion Crostinis 4) Pumpkin Cheesecake Trifle 5) Concord Grape Gin Sorbet

5 :: All in favor of booties say “Aye” – Booties to me are the 21 year old college sister to the sophisticated 28 year old calf high leather boots. They come in heels of all heights and are made for just about every occasion. They are extremely popular here in Germany right now to wear with skirts. So this week I thought I’d feature some of my favorites for this season. Click on a image to shop online! 1) Franco Sarto – Vella Bootie $79.95 2) BCBGeneration – Hellen Bootie $99.95 3) Me Too – Laser Bootie $69.95 4) Ann Marino – Lido Pump $49.95 5) Impo – Prince Bootie $49.95 6) Nine West – Melo Bootie $79.95

6 :: Anniversary Love – Here’s a sneak peek of the Copeland’s who celebrated their two year anniversary in August! We finally had gorgeous weather for their session and I am psyched to edit the rest of their images!

You know the story… boy meets girl and decides he can’t continue moving forward in life without her. Then one evening as he holds her close, he asks her to marry him and be a part of his life forever. Such is the tale of Brian and Kari whom I had the joy of photographing during the middle of August. Engagement sessions make my heart sing as there is so much love and meaningful glances between the happy couple. Kari and Brian are fun-loving and full of creative spontaneity. You can tell by being around them that they will make an adventure out of life. I am all too familiar of what it’s like to be long distance from your fiance as I had to do the same with my husband. Even though Kari is only in Germany for a short while, and you can see they don’t want to let each other go. The couple will be getting married this coming May back home in the states and I have no doubt it will be a marvelous occasion!

The session was a blast and the weather could not have been more perfect! The couple planned three outfit changes including Brian’s ABUs and his firefighter gear! I had no idea how much stuff firemen are weighed down with! I was suitably impressed. I really love it when couples include aspects of their lives that tailor the session precisely to them! Here is a sneak peek of some of the photos from their session…

Brian and Kari, thank you SO much for being such amazing clients! I hope that you enjoyed your session as much as I enjoyed capturing these loving moments between the two of you. I wish you many blessings in the rest of your days as a married couple. Congratulations and best wishes!

1 :: Together Again – There is so much excitement inside of me my heart feels like it could burst! My husband is finally coming home after being away for two and a half months!!! I feel kind of like a wuss because this “mini deployment” really wasn’t all that long… but it sure was hard. I had grown so used to having a companion through life that I had to re-learn how to live my life when he was gone. I am also ecstatic that he’s coming home in time for the 4 day Labor Day weekend! Such a blessing…

2 :: Back to BlackEvery girl needs a pair of black patent leather stilettos. It’s a staple… kind of like the little black dress. So to encourage and inspire, I have compiled a list of the greats that I feel have done a rockstar job in their rendition of the black stiletto pump. Gives you something to reach for doesn’t it? 3 :: Bursting with Flavor – I’m hankering after savory recipe’s these days. This usually means I turn to thai food or indian cuisine. Check out these yummy solutions to add some flavor in your diet! 5 :: A Love Everlasting – I had the exciting privilege of photographing Kari and Brian’s engagement session this week! They will be featured on the blog soon when all the editing is finished, but I couldn’t resist sharing this one with you all. The weather was so perfect for their session complete with this fabulous sunset. Every couple should have a photo like this!

That’s all for this Monday! Hope this inspired you to start your week refreshed and ready to conquer. Don’t forget to come back next week!
